More than 6,000 pets were rescued on the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina, accoridng to the Department of Homeland Security.  Many residents who lost pets in the storm still have not been reunited with them.  It is important that your emergency plan include your pets.  They should NEVER be left outside or tied up when a storm hits.  In an evacuation, here are some things you can do to make sure your pets stay safe.

Made sure they are current on vaccinations. Don't wait until a storm threatens.
